National Gorgeous Grandma’s Day!

If you’ve been lucky enough to spend time with your grandma, you know how wonderful they are.

If you’ve been lucky enough to spend time with your grandma, you know how wonderful they are.

Grandmothers bring a special Zing to a room, that special thing that can only be brought by The One and Only. And they do very special things that parents cannot.

From filling a hand with candies or sneaking a cookie, or reading a few special books, the world is a much better place filled with Grandmas!

My Grandma made beef stew when our family came to visit. She walked to Big Lots with us and let us spend $5. She said “Life by the yard is hard. But life by the inch is a cinch.”

Grandma was a doer. She raised 8 children and was a nurse at the hospital. Grandma put on big, big family reunions in the summer. There’d be food and softball, stories and catching up. She was a real wonder. When I think about her now, I wonder how she was doing so much.

She left a real legacy. “On Eagles Wings” was her favorite song. When I see the song name, or I hear it played, I think of her.

When my mother became a Grandma, she brought a great big Grandma Basket to our house when she was coming to babysit. It was like her survival pack. It was filled with coloring books, play-doh, games, macaroni and cheese, and snack bars. It was incredible. The kids were thrilled to see inside of it. When I was leaving to go out, my mom would say, “If the kids are bad, I’ll sit on ‘em!”

I had a dear friend in Washington DC who was fondly named the Grandmother of Georgetown. And she truly was gorgeous, inside and out. Loved by all the neighbors from age 1 to 91. Everyone would smile at her. She was much older than me, but she was so kind to adopt me as a friend, let me help her at her desk and go for long walks with her.

Another gorgeous Grandma who I befriended was aptly named “Boots”, no doubt by one of her own grandchildren. She volunteered at her grandchildren’s school and adored working with all the children.

The attributes that Grandmas leave in their wake, the stories, the inspiration, the kindness, the legends. There are so many things that make Grandmas gorgeous, wonderful, amazing, and beloved people.

Maybe it’s the way they smile or give great hugs.

Maybe it’s the way they look at you like they’ve known you forever.

Maybe it’s their willingness to spend endless quality time with you.

Maybe it’s the special recipes they have or the special outings they take you on.

Maybe it’s the stories you’ve heard before, their pert opinions, or the sound of their voice.

Grandmas are gorgeous for as many reasons as the stars in the sky.

It’s National Gorgeous Grandma Day! Tell your grandma that she is gorgeous and thank her for all she does!

With Love and Admiration…

❤️
